The National Assembly is one of the three main pillars of the Government. The Executive, Legislative, being the National Assembly, and Judiciary.
The main function of the Parliament is to discuss Bills, including the Budget, Motions
and questions, and thus, therefore acts as checks and balances to the Executive.
Functions of the Secretariat is to oversee the day to day running of the Assembly and provides assistance to its Parliamentary members.
All staff of the National Assembly Secretariat are Civil Servants.
The Secretariat is manned by a component of 11 staff of which the majority is women. Sections in the Assembly are: the Documentation Section, the Parliamentary Reporting Section, the Accounts Section and Administration Section.
The Secretariat is headed by the Clerk under the direction of the Speaker.
