Represented the then "United Opposition" on a proportional basis in 1993. Directly elected to the National Assembly for the St-Louis constituency in 1998 and 2002. In 2007 he was directly elected as MNA for the Anse-Etoile constituency. In 1998 he was also elected as Leader of the Opposition, a position he still holds.
