Committees - The Standing Orders Committee

At its Sitting of 12th June 2007, the National Assembly nominated the following MNAs as members of the Standing Orders Committee.

Hon. Marc Naiken

Hon. Terrence Francoise

Hon. Mitzy Larue

Hon. Bernard Georges

Hon. Frank Elizabeth
Standing Orders Committee is established under Orders 78 of the National Assembly, Standing Orders 1994.

Like all committees the new Standing Orders Committee comprises of seven members five from the majority (SPPF) and two from the Opposition (SNP). The Committee met on Tuesday 17th July 2007 and elected Hon. Wilby Lucas the Deputy Speaker as Chairman .

The main function of the Committee is to consider all proposals concerning the rules of procedure of the Assembly and to report to the Assembly. In addition to its main function, the Assembly may assign any other functions upon the Committee on a case by case basis.

The Committee is bi-partisan and works on a non-partisan basis.

Members are, in the meantime studying the existing Standing Orders, with a view to review it and bring it up to date. The next meeting for the Standing Orders Committee is scheduled for 21st September.
