The FPAC Committee held its first working session


The FPAC Commitee
The FPAC Committee held its first working session on Monday 13th August 2007. Present were the Auditor General, Mr Marc Benstrong and his assistant Mr Herath from the Audit Department.

This was also an opportunity for the Auditor General to meet the new committee and its new members. Focus during the meeting was solely on the Auditor’s Report 2005.

The Committee will be meeting for a whole week in early September to discuss the Auditor’s Report in its entirety and, if need be to summon the Principal Secretaries and Accountants of Minis¬tries, Departments of the Government in the presence of the Auditor General to elucidate issue.

In the past, the FPAC Committee has always had the cooperation of the Auditor General, the Principals Secretaries, Accountants of various ministries whenever they have been summoned before the Committee. Summoning the Government Officials to the FPAC Committee of the National Assembly, is done under Article 158(6) of the Constitution.
