IAC in Focus

While the National Assembly is in recess, the International Affairs Committee, under the Chairmanship of Hon. Waven William, has resumed its work for the year 2009 and so far has conducted three meetings.

During these meetings, members discussed and adopted a new meeting schedule, in addition to the committee’s work plan for the year 2009.

The committee agreed to take follow up actions on the series of meetings conducted last year with key economic stakeholders on the issues of impact of food, global financial and energy crisis and climate change.

The committee further discussed the oversight work on the fact finding mission report conducted by the ACP/EU JOINT Parliamentary Assembly members of the Bureau on the Seychelles fishery industry in April 2008.

Emphasis was given to the need to proactively conduct more oversight work on the international cooperation and agreements signed and to be signed by the government and on that basis the first meeting is to be conducted with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
