The International Affairs Committee

 

Main Function

The Committee's main function is to work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on matters and issues of International Relations and report to the Assembly thereon.

Members of the Committee

The Committee is comprised of seven Members, five from the Ruling Party and two from the Opposition. The Chairman of the Committee is Hon. Waven William.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to be informed and contribute on matters of International concerns and interests.

a) Meeting with foreign dignitaries.
b) E.D.F. Funding.
c) ACP-EU Negotiations (E.P.A).
d) Seychelles overseas missions.
e) Foreign bi-lateral and multi-lateral agreements and cooperation.
f) Treaties of which Seychelles has ratified and intends to ratify in the future.
g) Affiliation to foreign organizations.

2. Maintaining and strengthening working relations with resident Ambassadors in the country.

3. Maintaining ties with foreign Parliamentary Organizations, such as Commonwealth Parliamentary Association-(CPA), the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), l’Association Parlementaire de la Francophonie-(L’APF), African, Caribbean and Pacific Group, Joint Parliamentary Assembly – (ACP-EU, JPA), Pan-African Parliament – (PAP).

4. Compilation of relevant reports for submission to the National Assembly.

5. Establishing relevant Adhoc Committees having specific terms of reference, as and when necessary.

6. Taking initiative to organize, fund and participate in activities and events both locally and internationally in order to visibly help towards the development of all parliamentary committees and the National Assembly institution in consultation with the Speaker.

7. Any other related task as may be assigned to by the National Assembly.
