Constitutional Provisions for the setting up of Committees


Article 104 of the Constitution provides for the setting up of two Standing Committees- the Finance and Public Accounts Committee and the Standing Orders Committee. The National Assembly also has an International Affairs Committee- the IAC.

Article 104 of the Constitution also makes provisions for the creation of other select Committees.


Committees


The National Assembly has the following Committees-

  • The Standing Orders Committee- SOC

  • The Finance and Public Accounts Committee- FPAC

  • The International Affairs Committee-IAC

  • The Economic Reform Oversight Committee- EROC

  • The Committee on Government Assurances- COGA

Composition of Committees

The composition of the Committees of the National Assembly reflects the political party spread in the National Assembly itself. Committees are comprised of 7 Members, at present, this being 5 from the Ruling Party and 2 from the Opposition. The Committees are thus, bipartisan and works on a non partisan basis. After Members are elected to Committees, the Committee Members elect from amongst themselves, a Committee Chairman.
